According to SoundScan, Alice in Chains' Unplugged album has has earned more than 1.24 million in sales - one of just six Unplugged albums that have sold more than a million copies. (The others are: Eric Clapton, Nirvana, Rod Stewart, Mariah Carey and 10,000 Maniacs)
Layne Staley was found dead in his Washington home on April 20, 2002. Details of his death have not yet been released. AIC to relaesed a live retrospective on December 5, 2000
VH-1 listed Layne Staley as their #35 Bad Ass in a recent top forty Rockshow.

On Sap, Right Turn is performed by "Alice Mudgarden" standing for Alice In Chains, Mudhoney, and Soundgarden.

Alice In Chains was previously known as Diamond Lie, Mothra, and Fuck, and later changed the name to Alice 'N Chainz (after a previous project of Layne's) and was later changed to just Alice In Chains. The band initially set out to be a glam band, but later switched over to the well-known "grunge" look. Layne was one of the first people in Seattle to sport a goatee.
The dolls from "I Stay Away" are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.The museum also holds several original hand-written lyrics sheet and other personal items of the band members.
Alice In Chains appears in the movie "Singles" as the bar band.

At some of Alice in Chains' earlier gigs, Layne had to wait outside of the clubs in the freezing cold until the band starting playing because he was a year younger then all them. The guys would piss him off and drink in front of him and have a good time while he had to go back outside and wait for them.
Man in the box has been said to be about censorship by Layne and about veal by Jerry and Sean.
Would? is about Andrew "Landrew the love god" Wood's death.
The unmentioned song at the end of Sap was unscheduled and according to Sean, "due to acid." Sean sings, Layne plays drums, Jerry plays piano and bass, and Mike Starr plays the guitar.
Layne was tired of Jerry writing almost all of the songs and he having to perform them so he finally convinced Jerry to sing lead-ins on Would? And thus began Mr. Cantrell's singing career.
There were two versions of Unplugged, one for the c.d. and one for the video. The one on the c.d. is a mix of the two however. On the c.d. version, the boys were dressed up wearing their leather jackets and expensive sunglasses.
Jerry started growing his hair long in the eighth grade to rebel against his clean cut school and starting to play guitar after he got into the music of the sixties and seventies.
